Fresh catnip questions, answered
Everything people ask us about ordering, delivery, storage, and whether their cat will actually like it.
What is farm-fresh catnip?
It is fresh-cut catnip (Nepeta cataria) from our plants in Golden, Colorado, delivered as whole green sprigs with leaves and flower heads intact. It is never dried or processed, so the aromatic oils that fade as catnip is dried and stored are still in the leaf.
Where do you deliver?
We deliver within the Denver metro area only: Denver, Jefferson, Boulder, Broomfield, Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties in Colorado.
How long does delivery take?
Typical delivery takes 1 to 3 days from when you place your order. Delivery times are typical, not guaranteed.
How much does it cost?
A one ounce bag of farm-fresh catnip is $7.99 in our online store. Local delivery is $6.00 per order, and free on orders over $20.
How should I store fresh catnip?
Refrigerate the sealed bag as soon as it arrives. Take out a sprig or a few leaves when you want to serve some, then reseal the bag and return it to the fridge. Aroma is strongest in the first several days. Leftover sprigs can be air-dried for later use.
How do I give fresh catnip to my cat?
Offer a single sprig or a few leaves on the floor, on a scratching post, or tucked into a toy. Gently bruising a leaf between your fingers releases more of the aroma. Most cats will sniff, rub, roll and chew for several minutes, then lose interest for a while.
Is catnip safe for cats?
Catnip is widely considered safe and non-addictive for healthy cats. Cats generally self-regulate and lose interest after a short session. Serve it in moderation, and check with your veterinarian if your cat has health concerns or you notice an upset stomach after a big nibble.
Why doesn't my cat react to catnip?
Sensitivity to catnip is inherited, and roughly a third of cats do not respond. Kittens usually do not react until they are a few months old. Fresh sprigs release aroma as the leaves are bruised, so it is worth a try even if your cat has ignored dried catnip, but not every cat will respond.
What is the packaging made of?
Each order is packed in a resealable bag that is certified commercially compostable. Where commercial composting is available, it can go out with food scraps; otherwise dispose of it with household waste.
Do you ship outside Colorado?
Not right now. Fresh catnip is a cut herb, and we only deliver where we can get it to you within a few days. If you are outside our area, send us a note through the contact page so we can gauge interest.
What if there is a problem with my order?
Email us at team@cowboycatnip.com with your order number and we will look into it. Refunds are handled under the refund policy posted in our store.
